Center for the Study of Black Students
The Center for the Study of Black Students is designed to conduct research on Black Student Unions and African American college students’: academic achievement; professional and pre-professional prospects; social and political impact on campuses. The first study from the center was a worthy 10 year follow up to the study “African American Student Achievement: The Black Student Union,” which was the basis for the formation of the Office of the Black Student Union. This study, was released in 2009, is “The Black Student Union: Historical and Contemporary Developments”.
The second study from the center will address the impact of the BSU advisor on student achievement, pre-professional development, and campus climate. This study, which will be released in 2010 is entitled “The BSU Advisor: Faculty, Staff, Mentor, and Alum”. Each year, a series of articles that discuss issues pertinent to the development of African American students will be released by the center. The authors of these articles will represent emerging voices in African American scholarship.
